Ask Pres. Elect Obama to Adopt Puppy from Shelter

Hi everyone! This is a cause very dear to me and I ask for your help.

We have all seen in the media recently that Pres. Elect Obama has promised his children a puppy for when they move into the White House. Please, write him and ask him to adopt a puppy from a shelter. I would hate to see him buy one when he can give a shelter puppy such a great opportunity and save a life!

You may e-mail him directly from his senate page at

http://obama.senate.gov/contact/

You can get the links to the sites directly from here or add whatever you like. Look at the left towards the bottom for more ways to help.

Please support homeless pets:-)
I wrote him today, I hope it gets to him. Maybe if they get a bunch of these someone will make sure he reads them.

Thanks so much!!

P.S.

I also wrote CNN News to do a story about it. Maybe if a lot of people write in they will! Again, power in numbers:-) Please help!

Update - CashKrazy.com

See update at end of original post also, please.

Make Money Online - CashKrazy.com

**Update - 11-7-2008 **

Check out the comments in previous post!!!! They are a scam with BBB complaints! I'm Taking out all the links and closing account. Thanks to the person who left the comment! I should have followed my own advice and checked them out myself more thoroughly.

Still have gotten no where with this. To be fair, I did kinda give up for a while. Will go back to trying to fill out that elusive third offer.

Keep this in mind:

I filled out one of these offers that I was truly interested in, vinyl siding for my home. Boy was that a mistake! I put down that my best time to get calls from them was in the morning. Well, let me tell you! Within 15 minutes of filling out the form they were calling, and it was in the late evening! I received at least four phone calls in less than an hour and a half. It is like they spammed my phone! Then also the e-mails...not worth it. I e-mailed them back and told them on the phone that if that is how they conduct their business I was not comfortable with them and did not want their services. A few more ignored calls and e-mails and now it seems to have stopped.

Lesson learned: Keep using my old, disconnected phone number!

Happy trails!

Make Money Online - CashKrazy.com

Hello!

I just found this survey site, www.cashkrazy.com, was credited $5 right away for signing up and $30 for getting a car quote! Plus another $7.50 for a Green Auto Quote. Pretty awesome :-)

They pay by PayPal and direct deposit or check. I love the ones that pay by PayPal because it is great to sign in and find money in my account! You must complete 3 offers before requesting payout and it takes 30 days. You must be a US resident. It is totally free to sign up. One account per address.

To earn cash you simply choose which offers to participate in and there are daily surveys. The option to skip offers I find very helpful since I don't always want to fill these out. So far all the offers I have done have been for cash but they also use a point system, 1400 pts gets you an IPod Nano! They pay 25 points per referral, so please sign up using my links!!

Good luck and happy trails to you!

**Update - 10-10-2008 **

Ok, so I have been trying to get the payout on my $42 and it's kinda hard. It tells me I must complete 3 offers, I have 2 can't seem to get the third. I start it but It takes me to something else and it doesn't count. I don't get it. I don't like these offer things too much, I get enough junk mail as it is and I am not willing to give out credit card info or my real phone numbers! I haven't been able to find out if there is an actual money amount you need to get a pay out or is it just the 3 offers thing. Someone left a comment that the payout is at $400, that's crazy! I have not been able to confirm that as of this time.

I will update again if I get the third offer and pay out.

**Update - 11-7-2008 **

Check out the comments below!! they are a scam with BBB complaints! I'm Taking out all the links and closing account. Thanks to the person who left the comment! I should have followed my own advice and checked them out myself more thoroughly.

About my absence from the blogosphere…

As some of you may have noticed I have not been around for a while. It has to do with a lot of things, back to school preparation, a bit of illness, and general lost of hope for making money online. Our economy is at its worse and so are my personal finances. I just can’t afford to sit on the computer for hours on end anymore with no real profit potential for the near future. So it is out to look for a job for me.

Blogging is not as easy as it seems. It requires a great deal of time, kudos to all of you who keep at it. There are some great blogs out there. I will continue to stop by my favorites and post occasionally as time permits.

Good luck and happy trails to all!

Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk – Needs Volunteers

Alzheimer’s is a terrible disease that affects millions of people every year and to which none of us are immune. Alzheimer’s is the 6th leading cause of death in the US.

The Alzheimer's Memory Walk is taking place in hundreds of communities across the nation to help increase awareness and funds for Alzheimer in the US. There is also an Iraq Memory Walk taking place out of the Ali Base, Iraq. The money raised goes toward research to treat and prevent Alzheimer’s and for programs to help out those already touched by the disease.

The average walk is usually about 2-3 miles long and held on a beautiful autumn morning. Volunteering does not only consist of walking. Help is needed in other areas. If you are unable to walk please consider contacting your local chapter to help out in other areas. Many are in need of team captains (don’t need to walk), event planning volunteers, and local event committee volunteers. No age limits apply.

If you feel up to the walk it is easy to sign-up. There are over 600 communities involved across the US. Starting your own team is easy and it comes with your very own web site to use as your teams headquarters!

The web site is jammed packed with helpful tools to assist you whether you are walking or a team captain. There is also a store for gear, cute croc charms and a whole lot more.

There is nothing going on close to my area so I joined the virtual walk. The virtual walk is a great way to help without leaving your home. Of course it does not help in the expansion of my bottom...if you know what I mean!

Happy Volunteering!

Update - InboxDollars.com

Another great image form Flexy8.com. Thought it was appropriate since I haven't been around for like a week. Just finished catching up with all my Entrecard drops, 252 drops later!

Also, I have been checking out the latest money making opportunity that is, InboxDollars.com. Let the truth be known…I am addicted to the games. Making money for playing games is only possible if an upgrade is purchased. I hate that. The minimum is $10, paid by PayPal or credit card, which the site will match. The cheapest games are $1 to play and you may win$3.50. Practice games are available before playing for money and your score is given with a percentage of how well you did compared to others. It gives you a pretty good idea of how well you would do if actually playing for cash. Play is against another player that is matched up to your skill level. I have been playing the free version, not sure I want to upgrade. It is almost like gambling, don’t you think?

Other than that, I like the site. I have made a little money reading e-mails, it’s easy, a couple of clicks. It is also only worth a couple of cents, every penny counts, literally! Surveys are anywhere from $0.25 to $2 so far. Signed up for a few survey sites I wasn’t aware of, made a few bucks there. I do not like filling out forms and trial offers so I haven’t done any of that, but if you like it there are many offers available.

In conclusion, I would say that you will most definitely not get rich here, but a few bucks here and there are possible. A few is better than none and everything adds up!

There is no adware or spam associated with this site or the download for the games. You will receive the money making e-mails to read, but that is it. Referrals only pay if they remain active in the program. So, please if you are thinking about it giving it a try, use my referral link!

Happy clicking!

Make Money Online - InboxDollars.com

I just signed up with this service. Took a quick survey that was actually just providing my profile info and made $0.50 plus my $5 sign-up bonus. Not bad, as surveys go. Seems like a good place to make a few extra bucks. They also pay for playing games. Gonna give that a try right away!

They guarantee 100% free offers, which are the only type I do. I hate filling out all those spammy offers. I will update on how I like this site after I complete some offers. So far, the surveys are quick and easy, and PAID! They pay for referrals, so please sign-up using my links! Thanks!

Happy money making!

Mystery Shopping Scam Alert!

Watch out! I just found out about this scam taking place that uses the name of American Consumer Opinion. ACP is a site I have recommended previously for making money taking paid surveys. Here is the quote from their website:

“WARNING!Mystery Shopper Scam

A fraudulent Canadian company is using the American Consumer Opinion® name to mail counterfeit checks for thousands of dollars, instructing you to deposit the check and then wire part of the money back to them. The company falsely claims the money you wire will go towards your training to become a mystery shopper. This is a criminal and illegal scam. Do not attempt to cash or deposit the check. Do not wire any money to anyone. Membership in American Consumer Opinion® is always free. ”

Always remember, you never have to pay for legitimate money making opps and never, ever get involved with anything that involves wiring money or cashing checks for them! Those are scams every single time!

For more about scams and surveys see my other posts:

Be safe! If you have any doubts at all follow the safety first guidelines:

  • You can check registration data here such as name, address and phone number. http://www.whois.net/
  • Updated link to The BBBOnLine "Check out a Business or Charity
  • Google the site name or registered domain owner and check out the buzz!
  • Leave a post about the site you are curious about and I will do all the work for you! Chances are I already have checked it out.

Thanks for reading, and happy trails!

Make Money Blogging – PepperjamNetwork

PJN July Promo

Hurry while offer lasts! During the month of July PepperjamNetwork will pay publishers a $10 sign-up bonus! You must click through the special “$10 bonus” link.

PepperjamNetwork is a new affiliate marketing network that promises to breach the communication gap between affiliates and merchants through the Pepperjam Chat. Pepperjam Chat allows affiliates and merchants to be in touch in real time. PJN also addresses the lack of transparency found in other programs.

PJN is not just online marketing; it is an affiliate program management tool. The site includes reports and a resource center that are very supportive. At the resource center you will find help in the form of links where affiliates can make additional money and educational sources. Their goal for the resource center is to make every associate a ‘Super Affiliate’ and help you make tons of money! Cool, I’ll take that!

They value the blogging community and reciprocate with great incentives. Just take a look at this offer closely, yes you sign up and get $10, but not only does PJN get exposure I get $7 for you signing up! They are helping me make more money by giving you a great incentive to sign-up through my link. Awesome!

I personally like the fact that I can pick the programs I want to participate in and their interest in transparency. There are some great merchants on PJN (exclusive merchants!) and a great many of them.

I have just started out and will be posting later on about how it works for me. If I make any money, you will be the first to know!!

Don’t forget! You will only receive the $10 if you sign up through the “$10 Bonus” link. Unfortunately, when I signed up I messed that up somehow, and will not be receiving my $10. Don’t let the same thing happen to you!

Happy Blogging!

Make Money Blogging - Shopping Ads

ShoppingAds allows you to make money by displaying related merchant ads on your blog. The publisher (blogger) may choose what type of ads to display by the use of keywords. The ads are live and you may customize them to fit the style of your blog. There is also an affiliate program. The money is made by CPC (cost per click) or CPA (cost per acquisition). Joining is free and there is no future costs associated with the program.

Take note you start of as a ‘Standard Publisher’ and then depending on your blog traffic you may reach ‘Premium Publisher’ status. It does not take long and this blog qualified, so don’t let that stop you from joining. The difference between the two is that as a ‘Premium Publisher’ you may earn money both from CPC and CPA where as a ‘Standard Publisher’ you may only earn from CPA.

I joined as an alternative to Google Ads which I do not like so much. ShoppingAds has top merchants and it is easier to pick what type of ads to run. If you decide to join, please!! Use my link from the sidebar so I can get the referral commission of 5%. Just click on the ShoppingAds banner on the part that says “Ads by ShoppingAds” and that will direct you to their site. Thanks!!

Happy Trails!

Emma the Puppy Update

Emma is so cute and so big! On her second visit to the vet 2 weeks ago she was up to 29lbs, from 19lbs when we got her. Emma is by no means overweight, just a big puppy. I am sure she has put on a few pounds since then. We can tell how big she is getting by her height. When she first got here she couldn’t see over the coffee tables and her head was about the same height as the seat cushion on the couch. Emma now towers over both!

The puppy pads never worked out for us. The vet was right, it’s all about schedule. Keeping a strict schedule of feeding, walks and exercise did work. We have adjusted the schedule now that she knows to go outside. Meaning, we don’t have to take her out as often. I can say she is potty trained for sure!

On this last visit to the vet we found out we were bathing her too often. Emma was getting a weekly bath. The vet said this is not necessary and is actually bad for them. He said by giving the puppy baths so often the skin glands get overworked and they only have so much to give, I guess it is like moisturizer. So, if you bathe the puppy too much you will basically wear out these glands and set your puppy up for a life of skin problems. Wow! I had no idea. The vet said no more than four baths a year, which is about every three months. He also said that bathing too often actually makes the doggy smell worse. Therefore meaning, Emma gets no more baths till the fall. I did buy some puppy wipes that are used between baths that are working out rather well.

My biggest worry of less baths was, and then what do we do for flea and tick prevention? My vet recommended Frontline. Which I know works because I use it on my cat, but I didn’t know that it was enough alone. It is. Of course I did not buy it from him, though I think my vet is great I know certain things you just don’t get from the vet. Went online and bought the Frontline for a lot less. See the links to my affiliate 1-800-Petmeds.

Please don’t forget to check out my Favorite Causes on the left hand navigation bar for free ways to donate to animal shelters and a link for pet adoption. You can save a life today!

W32/Sdbot.worm!ftp

I thought this picture tells it all! Been hijacked by a worm! The image is from a game called “Worms: A Space Oddity” by Team17 Software for Nintendo Wii. It is a very appropriate image for my current problem.

I have been trying to get rid of a worm on my laptop for days! I do not understand why my virus program can not get rid of it. The best I was able to do was delete it. It just came back a few hours later. I have done a Google search and I just don’t get it! If anyone out there in the blogosphere is reading this and has some tips, info, anything about the W32/Sdbot.worm!ftp, please HELP ME!

What is it anyway? I just don’t get it. I know it slows down my computer. McAfee says it’s low risk and must be removed using ‘Engine/Dats’. Well what the heck is that? I have tried everything it just keeps coming back!!!

The Buzz about Renuzit TriScents!

Ts_version_2
I was chosen to participate in the Renuzit TriScents Campaign! Received my free sample a couple of weeks ago and have been trying it out ever since. I have to say it really does work like they say, even better. We have a cat, a dog and smoker. Have it working overtime you might say!

Renuzit TriScents is a scented oil with three different fragrances that change every 45mins or so. The change in fragrance makes it so you do not get used to the scent. Know how you can’t smell your own perfume after a while? I have two or three different perfumes that I use interchangeably so that I will not end up pouring half a bottle on myself because I can’t smell it! Renuzit TriScents work in the same manner. The aromas are very pleasant and have three adjustable fragrance levels. I placed mine in the dining room which is between the kitchen and living room. The location is great because it actually spreads to all three rooms. My favorite fragrance is the middle one, After the Rain. My collection is the Morning Meadow collection, it includes the before mentioned fragrance, Waterfall Mist and Pure Breeze. Each fragrance has a light that is activated when that particular scent is in use. I love sitting in the living room and experiencing the change of fragrances.

The campaign is “Transform Your Home in 1-2-3” featuring Tanya Memme from A&Es “Sell This House”. Basically it is about look, smell and feel. Step 1 is color, add a little paint to your walls; step 2 is scent, featuring Renuzit TriScents; and step 3 is textures, pillows, window treatments, etc.

For more details and a money saving coupon visit the Renuzit TriScents site by clicking: Renuzit TriScents

Your Carbon Footprint at Brighter Planet.com

keep-sunflowers-planet_shares-728x90-leaderboard.gif

This blog helped offset 350lbs. of carbon dioxide! WAHB has been given a certificate and the status of “A Blog that helps Fight Climate Change”! Awesome!

Sign up here:
Brighter
Planet Inc.

The average carbon footprint for a US resident is 22.64 short tons per capita in 2008.

A ton of CO2 is emitted when you drive 1,350 miles in a SUV and when you travel 2000 miles in an airplane.

How big is a ton of CO2? click here.

A carbon footprint is:

“A carbon footprint is an estimated total amount of greenhouse gases produced by a person’s daily activities, such as driving and heating a home, plus shared services (e.g., street lights).
It is expressed in Carbon Dioxide-equivalent units (CO2e), because there is more than one type of greenhouse gas and each greenhouse gas has a different climate impact relative to carbon dioxide.” From: brighterplanet.com

You can make a difference by using the Brighter Planet website. There you may choose to use the products that help offset your carbon footprint or purchase offsets directly. Brighter Planet keeps track for you. For example, if you sign up for the credit card offered by their partner, Bank of America, and choose paperless billing everytime you use the card you are offsetting your carbon footprint. Also, the points earned from your purchases are “invested on your behalf to help build renewable energy products”. It’s like a “green” credit card!

“Brighter Planet is dedicated to helping you take charge in the fight against global warming and build a clean-energy future. With a majority of Americans wanting to do something for the environment, our products are an effective way for individuals and businesses to reduce their impact on the climate.” From: brighterplanet.com

Your carbon footprint as well as some tips are available at the site. Just answer some questions about how you live and it is e-mailed to you. Create a free account to keep track of your offsets. For example once your account is created you can add to your profile whether you use CFLs (Compact fluorescent light bulbs) and whatch your footprint get smaller! Or you can add efforts you are willing to make like adding CFLs to your home and track your progress. You will find all this in the “My conservation efforts, achievements and regimens” once you are signed into your account.

Been Mystery Shopping…

I haven’t been around the blogosphere for I was mystery shopping for a couple of days plus a few other things I’ll tell you about later.

Mystery shopping has not been so profitable lately due to the high prices. However, this round of shops in my area was worth it. They had been e-mailing me about them forever! It is surprising how many companies e-mail me about the same shops over and over. They seem to have trouble filling them. Since you can only due a particular shop every so many days, sometimes once a year or in the case of the shops I did once every 180 days, I can’t always do them.

I love this round of shops! Can not give much details because of the confidentiality thing, but I can say I can make a quick $100 in a day. Because of the gas prices a lot of MS providers are letting the shoppers do more than the usual shops per day. They are also being a lot more flexible with due dates allowing the shopper to schedule shopping with any trips to the area already required. I had to re-schedule one shop because I just couldn’t make it on time and it was no problem. That is why it actually took me two days.

Another reason that had kept me away from these shops was the reports you must submit afterwards. When I did the first round back in October most of the questions had to be answered in essay form with some requiring 500 words or more! It was just crazy! For $15 it was just not worth it! They have since streamlined the report with only four essay type questions with a minimum of 200 words! Much better! There is no scanning of paperwork required, so I can get them done much quicker. The MS provider I am speaking of is Service Excellence Group.

Note, that despite the fact that they are the same shops just different locations, they don’t like repeated answers. After doing six of these shops, with basically the same scenarios it is not that easy not to repeat yourself! They’re editing practice is not that clear to me yet. I have not been able to score higher than 9 out of 10 in their rating system, I asked them for a copy of their revised report in order to improve my future contributions, but have not heard from them. It makes me wonder because I try real hard to follow all the grammatical and sentence structure rules along with providing a detailed account, etc., and it never seems to be good enough.

Other complications I have had during the past few days include a virus on my laptop! That I can’t seem to get rid off! Also, over 200 e-mails have accumulated in my in-box that I have been trying to go through! A lot are surveys and MS providers asking for help with shops. Since this high gas prices thing I believe these e-mails have at least doubled.

Happy trails to you!

Make Money Using LinkShare

LinkShare Referral Prg
I found this affiliate network which I really like, LinkShare. Joining LinkShare is absolutely free. As many real money making ops you are required to give them your SS# for tax reasons. LinkShare is truly different to other networks. Up to this time I have joined a few affiliate networks that I am not very satisfied with. What I do not like about them is that it is not easy, if at all possible, to pick your advertisers. I need the affiliate revenue to keep the blog going, but I would really like to decide the content of the ads for the sake of my readers and my reputation.

With LinkShare it is so easy to choose which advertisers you want to sign up with! LinkShare is partners with major, reputable brands with many to select from (Macy’s, AT&T, Office Depot, Orbitz, Chase, Wal Mart and hundreds more). Log in and go to your publisher dashboard, which by the way has fantastic features, click on the ‘Programs’ tab to see which brands are running campaigns, selection can be made by category, new advertisers, or premium advertisers. On the far right for each brand is located an ‘Apply’ button, which if clicked on will open up a new page where terms & conditions must be accepted. If and when they approve you, yes they get to choose too, they will appear in ‘My Advertiser’ tab under approved. Wait for an e-mail or check back often, some are approved almost immediately. After approval into a campaign, go to the ‘Links’ tab where you will find a great variety of links and banners to place in your blog. That easy!

How is the pay? Not sure yet since I have not generated any income thus far, just signed up last night. Advertisers pay a commission on sales made through your link or what they call “qualifying action you generate for them”. Exactly how much you are asking yourself? The percentages and offer types vary therefore it is hard to say exactly. I will update once I have generated some income on there.

I mentioned the dashboard before as being fantastic, it truly is the best I have seen anywhere so far! It is so easy to navigate and has so many useful resources I just can’t post about it all; my posts are long enough as it is! I can’t help but highlight a few features, though. Apart from that already mentioned above there is also a ‘Reports” tab where you can find detailed information on how the ads are performing and transactions completed. There are so many reports that can be run! Some are pretty advanced; it will take me a while to figure them all out. Not to mention I need some activity before anything will show up! So help me out! Sign up with my affiliate link!

Happy Trails!

Keeping the Kids Busy During the Summer

Summer is in full swing. The economy is hell; gas prices are sky rocketing, food packages are getting smaller and we have to find money out of a budget that is stretched to the limit for summer fun with the kids. What to do?

What I have done is programmed a lot of free, or almost free, activities through out the summer for us to participate in. Every community has things to do that are free or very close to it. Wherever you live, grab the local paper see what is happening in your neighborhood. Remember, a lot of these free or reduced rates are on special days so make sure to check for days and times, then schedule accordingly.

Local Public Library - Public Libraries have summer reading programs for the entire family. We joined with some of the other neighborhood girls, and I mean all of us, me too! I joined the adult program; there is a group for grades 1-6 and the little ones for K. They have weekly fun activities for the kids and they are rewarded with prizes every week for a book read. Of course the best reward is when they go back to school and they haven’t lost any skills but gained more reading experience. This is our second year of the summer reading program; she is going into the third grade. Our little one is a great reader and was levels ahead of everyone during the entire second grade. I know this is thanks to her reading during the summer.

Movies - Local movie theaters offer movie clubs during the summer with very low admission prices or free. It is a good way to encourage the reading club with another club that is all fun. Try AMC Theaters Summer Movie Club there is a search box to locate the nearest theater in your area. AMC offers $1 movies for adult and child and a $3 Kids Pack which includes popcorn, soda and fruit snack.

Museums – Check out your local museums they usually have reduced rates for residents and some may have summer activities for the little ones. You can also take a small day trip to a not so local museum. Enlightening and fun for everyone, this is another of my favorite things to do.

Arts and Crafts - We have a ton of arts and crafts that have been gifted to us during the year which are using up valuable space. Summer is a great time to get them done! One a week, which I usually save for a rainy day, keeps us entertained and cuts down on clutter! If you do not have an accumulated supply of arts & crafts do a Google search for free summertime arts & crafts there is a bunch of cool stuff floating around the internet.

Planetarium – This is another of our favorites. The nearby community college has a planetarium with summer programs on Saturday’s. It is only $2, fun and highly educational. Never know you might just have a future rocket scientist on your hands just have to introduce them to the topic!

Zoos & other – If you are lucky to have a zoo in your area this is another great activity that the kids love and is good for an all day activity. We are not so lucky. But, we are fortunate to live in an area with extensive mountains and lakes. This provides the opportunity of nature hikes and a day at the lake. Let’s not forget fishing either! Great bonding time with dad and all you need is a couple of hours and a small body of water.

Find Local Activities Effortlessly - Click here to search for planetariums in your area. It is really easy to add aquariums, amusement parks, beaches, corn mazes or anything else that interest you to the map. Once the map loads just go to the drop down menu “add interests to your map” on the top left and click on your interests. They will be added to your map. Presto! You have a map with everything you want on it! Additional information and driving directions for each place can also be found easily. Just rollover the icon of the particular interest and click on more details, a new page opens up. Pretty awesome I thought!

Happy summer!

New List for Entrecard Users

Blog–O–Ninja has put out a New Entrecard Bookmark and Dropping List that proves to be very helpful for Entrecard users. He guarantees 300 actual links on there and that it will be updated regularly. Easy downloading steps are included in the post. If you want to add your site you can leave your link on his comments section. You can also find out about other lists and tips for Wordpress blogs on Blog-O-Ninja.

While I can not personally do 300 drops a day, I take too long looking around each site I drop on. Also, I have found many sites that I generally visit on Entrecard that are very informative and fun to read which I would not want to stop visiting. But, all this said, it would be nice to get new sites to check out on a regular basis and he has made it really easy. So, yes I will give it a try. Though, I can not in good conscience promise visiting all 300 sites daily.

Thanks Blog-O-Ninja!

New Service provider!

Finally! I gave in to the monopoly in my town and went with the only available DSL provider, Embarq. I had been putting it off for a couple of years now, but I just couldn’t take slow dial-up anymore. What was worse was that my previous dial-up provider’s required downloads and what not froze up my computer constantly! I hated them :-( If you want to know it was Earthlink. So glad that is over! And by the way, that accelerator they add to dial-up was useless, at least in my case. As was the e-mail, nothing but spam.
I had some problems switching over, and it was time consuming! I tried doing everything online, but had to give in to that too and call to set up my new service because I just couldn’t get the final page to load. I am stubborn though, kept trying for three days!
Lost a post in the process, and haven’t been able to dedicate much time to WAHB, but I am back! I did have some time to do some research and I have a few interesting ideas for the next post. I will see tomorrow what I will go with.
It’s good to be a part of the 21st century along with everyone else, at last!

Happy Trails!

Scams in Your Inbox – Phishing E-mails

In the last couple of weeks I received two e-mails that almost tricked me. The first one was supposedly from PayPal the other one today from CapitalOne credit cards. I have received this type of e-mail before, but usually since they are such obvious fakes, I pay no mind. This time they looked pretty real.

What is Phishing?

According to Wikipedia it is “the criminally fraudulent process of attempting to acquire sensitive information …by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication”.

Both e-mails tried to scare me saying that my account had to be confirmed or it would be terminated. The CapitalOne e-mail even went as far as saying there had been various login attempts from multiple computers. I was so close to clicking on the link provided. Of course I remembered a little safety and went to the website directly. Naturally there was nothing wrong with my account. If you do click on the links provided by these scam artists you will be directed to a fake website that looks very much like the genuine site. The e-mails were equally official looking, logos and all, but they made one fatal mistake. The e-mail address they used was a yahoo one. Duh! How dumb do they think I am, of course PayPal would not be using a free e-mail account and neither would CapitalOne. Also, look for bad grammar, the lack of your name, and look closely at the link address.

I went to the PayPal site and found a link to report phishing. Forward the Phishing email to spoof@paypal.com. That was great at least I felt like there was someplace to go! Like someone would do something about it, stop others from being taken. PayPal even wrote me back offering thanks and a link with tips to help protect the consumer. Remember that the official PayPal website is a secure address, look for the s after http.
https://www.paypal.com/

All companies should provide this system. I was surprised the CapitalOne site doesn’t have a link to report Phishing. At least I couldn’t find one. I contacted them directly and am awaiting a response.

There is a place to report phishing scams it is The Anti-Phishing Working Group a volunteer organization. You may send any suspicious e-mail to reportphishing@antiphishing.org and they will review it and any websites it links to. They ask not to forward it for information can get lost. Go to their "Report Phishing" page for instructions. They also have a "Phishing Archive" page where you may review phishing e-mails that have been submitted and confirmed.

The CapitalOne e-mail phishing attempt seems to be a new one for it does not show up in their archives. I will be sending the e-mail to the APWG for review.

Another site I found helpful is the FBI’s. The “Internet Fraud” page is a collaboration between the FBI and the national White Collar Crime Center.

It makes me so mad that they can get away with scamming the general public, worldwide! There are no laws, no governing agency to put a stop to every single one of these online criminals. While legislation has been proposed it has not passed. I really don’t understand how and why they have not passed this legislation. Some lawsuits have been successful; however most are getting away with it.

Be careful! Report all phishing attempts and maybe someday they will get tired of spamming our inbox because it will not be worth the effort.

Happy trails!

Entrecard Buzz

You have probably noticed the rectangle on the top left of my side bar that states ‘Drop’ and an ‘E’ that stands for Entrecard. It includes a picture that changes daily, this is called a ‘card’. A card is like a digital business card for your blog that each blogger creates (125x125 formats). The ‘card’ serves as an advertisement for your personal blog. As you earn credits on Entrecard you may use them to buy advertisement space on other blogs. The ads run for a complete 24hrs with no rotation and are free! The card that shows in my widget changes daily and its purpose is to serve as an ad for another blog that I have personally approved. My 'card' is found on other sites where I choose to advertise and the site owner accepts my ad.

So what is the point of signing up with Entrecard?

Entrecard gives the blogger a chance to promote their blog. It doesn’t matter if you are new to blogging or have an established site. It is free, immediate and easy to set up. Entrecard increased my blog traffic right away and I hadn’t even started advertising!

After you register with Entrecard you may start ‘dropping’. To drop is to go to a blog and if you see the widget click on ‘drop’. Pretty easy. You will earn EC’s (Entrecard Credits) for this action. When you accumulate enough EC’s you can advertise on other blogs and get more traffic to your site! You also get EC’s when others place ads on your blog.

Entrecard is not just about promoting your blog. It is a place to find amazing blogs, make some friends and yes gain popularity for your blog right away. It is a blogging community. The blog database can be searched by topic type. This has given me the opportunity to find some interesting blogs that I would have never come across otherwise. There is also a forum and messaging. Entrecard is an ideal place to see and learn what other bloggers are doing.

As any community there are some etiquette rules to follow. Always follow those who drop on you that is the number one rule! It is not always reciprocated; there is a lot of buzz about this throughout the blogosphere. I just say deal with it. Who knows why the other person couldn’t get back to your blog to drop. Maybe they just had so many drops they can’t keep up. The fact is if I drop on you and you don’t drop back, your card will not show up in my dashboard and I will probably not drop again. I don’t loose any sleep over it. I always drop and then follow the advertisement and drop there too. This can go on perpetually! The more I drop the more I gain!

I actually not only drop but read the sites. It takes forever on dial-up but it is well worth it I have found some great sites and great tips on making money online. The amount of time I will spend on a page depends on the content and the grammar. While I am not an English professor, if I have a hard time reading a post I will drop and leave. The buzz is that not a lot of Entrecard users actually read the posts. There are what are called “drive by droppers” or “chain droppers”. They just drop and run. That is fine with me. If I can’t keep your attention long enough to read, well…what am I going to do? Whine that you do not read my posts? Nope, that is not me. I will just keep trying harder to make my blog more interesting so you will not be able to stop yourself from reading the posts. That’s just me, but to each his own.

If you haven’t given Entrecard a try yet I recommend you do so. This is not a paid post or anything of the sort. It is from my own personal experience in the last couple of weeks that I recommend this service.

Happy dropping!

ClixSense.com - Make Money by Clicking?

I decided to try out one of those pay-per-click opps found advertised around the net. There was a post on a related blog that recommended ClixSense.com, so I figured I would do a little investigating on the subject. The following is my recount of what I experienced.

After registering you may browse ads by clicking on the “Browse Ads” link, a list of available ads will appear, click on the ad that interests you. Then a timer will appear in the new ad window/tab, when it counts down to zero the amount declared for that ad will be credited to your account. Every so many ads you will have to input the Turing numbers/letters you see, it’s just their way to make sure you are not using an automated program to view the ads, or so I imagine. They use it at log-in also. Simple enough.

Only one account per household is strictly enforced. Payment will be made via check by regular mail. PayPal is not used. Payments are made on the 10th day of the month provided the user has reached the minimum payout of $10, or a higher amount if preferred. If not they will carry the balance over to the next month until the minimum is reached.

No fees are associated with making money on ClixSense.com. There is an option to upgrade to “premier status” which gives you the benefit of viewing more ads and collecting additional affiliate revenue. You may advertise on this site that is separate from your earnings.

The affiliate program pays premium members 5 levels deep for their referrals which they claim can lead up to a $366.50 payout. Regular members get $0.10 a referral. That is quite the difference. I am not there yet and I do not like to pay for anything either. I will not be upgrading anytime soon.

Some of the ads I viewed were for such things as The Discovery Store, JitterBug phone, money making opps, and shopping. A couple of the ads repeated themselves, but I was still credited. All of the ads so far pay a penny for 30 seconds of viewing except one that paid $0.02 for the same 30secs of viewing. The ads displayed match your profile settings. I should have checked off more interests because it only displayed 25 ads. Keep this in mind if you decide to sign-up. You can only change your profile settings once every 90 days!

I made $0.25 in 12.5 minutes. The money was accredited to my account right away. If I wanted to make $5 a day I would have to view 500 ads spending a little over 4hrs viewing these ads. I have dial-up and the pages loaded fast. The seconds start counting down before the page fully loads so, if I wanted I really wouldn’t have to wait for it to finish loading anyways. Using tabbed browsing makes it easy because I can still view other pages. I am surprised they haven’t figured this out yet. My curiosity makes me view the page for more than the 30secs required anyway.

Is it worth it? Not sure. It would be $5 more than I have now. Every penny counts, literally! It is up to each individual user. If you want to sign-up click on my link to ClickSense.com and I will make an entire $0.10! Thanks!

I will update when I have an actual check in my hand from ClickSense!

PPP Accepted my Post!

It was so awesome I checked my e-mail and there it was “Your post has been accepted by PPP”! I had been logging in and checking my e-mail everyday waiting for a response. Actually, it didn’t take that long, I was just so anxious.

This is a real opportunity to make money online, no gimmicks, no money on your part required. My payment will be deposited directly into my PayPal account, simple as that. The hardest thing is getting opportunities before they are filled! So far, I have only been able to get two paid posts. There have been plenty more opps, but they are always filled by the time I get to them. I don’t know what the trick is, how often I should check or what! As soon as I figure it out I will post about it. If anyone has any tips please! Leave a comment.

Happy blogging:-)

First E-mail from Air Car!

I received my first e-mail from ZeroPollutionMotors! Had been thinking about this car all weekend! They will keep me updated on any news about the Air Car. I can’t wait! 2010 seems like a long wait, but it is really not. Two years fly by. I am sure there will be at least a few other choices by then. So far, I think compressed air sounds the best. It gets the best mileage of any of the other fuel alternative vehicles I have read about. There also not seems to be as many complications with it in comparison to other alternative fuel vehicles. The Air Car is the option for me! The price sounds great! Actually less than what I was planning to spend on a traditional fuel car. OK, so I will have to compromise on the leg room, oh well have been doing that all my life! Anyhow, don’t know yet just how roomy they will be, they do say it is a 6-passenger car, which sounds pretty roomy to me!

More to come as I get additional updates from ZeroPollutionMotors.

OMG! A Car That Runs on Compressed Air!

It exists! Yes there is a car that runs on air and only “pure air exits its tailpipe”!! I am so excited! Of course, it is not available at the moment. It is though, in its “final development stage”. ZeroPollutionMotors.com estimates 96mph top speed and up to an 800 mile range. Pretty good! Demand for the Air Car will be high. I signed up with my e-mail to be kept up to date; purchasing an Air Car will not be easy. They are taking ‘reservations’ for US deliveries in 2010. Three similar models will be available.

“If you can, imagine a vehicle that runs on air, achieves over 100 gas-equivalent mpg and over 90 mph, has zero to low C02 emissions, seats six, has plenty of space for luggage, cuts no safety corners, and costs no more than an average economy to mid-size vehicle.”

Ok, there is a bad aspect. It is French! I know that if you are an American loving patriot like my honey, French products are not allowed. But, hey! You know it’s for the good of the entire planet! It was developed by MDI-Motor Development International based in France, with Guy Negre in charge.

ZeroPollutionMotors.com mission statement:

To bring zero pollution motoring at any speed, for any distance, to the largest number of motorists possible and, in doing so, significantly improve the quality of the air we breathe and reduce our collective carbon footprint.

Sounds great to me, I don’t care where it’s made as long as no one was harmed in the process! I want one! They also look real cute, ZeroPollutionMotors.com calls it 'Smart Design’. They are just as safe as other cars on our roads today, for they follow the same safety rules. Air bags and ABS braking included.

No sacrifice of the usual amenities, either. The Air Car comes equipped with full CFC-Free A/C; power windows, doors and locks; optional GPS, etc. Ok so the sacrifice is in horsepower, only 75hp. You can’t have everything! See vehicle specs.

Price is the best thing; it actually is affordable for the average population. The Air Car is proposed at roughly $17,800. Oil changes are only required every 31,000 miles! They estimate $2 to fill up and 106mpg! Simple maintenance by replacement of parts cuts down on labor costs. I am totally sold!

Oh, Oh. I read on, guess what? At higher speeds, over 35mph, it uses other types of fuel. Darn it! I have been fooled again! Ok it is still twice as clean as the cleanest car out there today and they are small amounts of fuels such as gasoline, propane or ethanol. They do say it gets “over 100 gas-equivalent mpg”. That is still better than my 31mpg highway.

Refueling problems again, must plug into a normal power outlet. It does also refuel while driving at high speeds. Ok so I will do like that dude that installed his own wind turbine in his back yard, plus some solar panels and done deal! Actually I am serious about this. I have thought about it for years, my education makes this an easily accessible option, remember I am an Archi! I know how to do it, at least in theory. Money has been a deterrent, but given the state of things I do believe this will finally become a feasible option for a lot of people.

Happy Trails!

Disclosure:

I am in no way associated with this company or have received any form of payment from ZeroPollutionMotors.com for this post. It is of my own free will that I chose to write about the Air Car with no compensation in mind. However, if anyone from ZeroPollutionMotors.com reads this and wants to throw an Air Car my way, I by no means will refuse it! Imagine how much I could write if I actually got to drive one!

Alternative Fuel Technologies

So what is out there? What are the alternative fuel choices we are given today?

  • Ethanol: It is not working out. There are not enough fueling stations! By the time they get fueling stations for everyone, food prices are going to be so high what’s the point? Plus, for what I have been able to find out the mileage is not that great at all.
  • Electric cars….not so good. They are very small, most Nev’s (neighborhood electric vehicles) are only allowed on roads with posted speed limits of 35mph or lower, and they can only go short distances. The better ones are way expensive (EV’s). The picture posted is of the Kurrent NEV car. The Kurrent will be built in Michigan by American Electric Vehicles. It is affordable only $10,600, but can’t be driven in the US in roads with posted speed limits over 35mph and only has a 40 mile range. Most NEV’s are being sold in Europe, London especially. We need an EV that is viable here in the US, at around $20,000. That would be accessible to the average person and therefore a successful solution to our current problem. Then there is the question of how are you going to charge them up? Plug into the regular grid? Then you are still part of the energy consumption problem. We need more solar energy and wind power to supply our homes and businesses, but that’s an entirely other can of worms!
  • Hydrogen fuel cars? Several decades before it is perfected. You see, hydrogen is an energy carrier not an energy source. Big difference! The procedure is that of combining hydrogen and oxygen to create electricity. The only byproducts are heat and vapor, splendid! Honda is promising 280 miles of range and a whopping 74mpg! However, these fuel cells are extremely expensive. These cars require some kind of fueling station and there are not many, even in California. Some even say that the stations would actually run on traditional fuel sources, so what's the point? It has been called “one of the least efficient, most expensive alternative fuel sources”. GM is rolling out 100 fuel cell electric vehicles for the largest ever market test. Don’t think they will be out on the lot of your local car dealer anytime soon, though.

What about a car that ran on air? OMG wouldn’t that be the most awesome thing? And it could take polluted air and recycle it through the engine and have it come out clean air!

Ok, I'm getting carried away here.

To sum it up:

Buying a car that does not rely on traditional petroleum fuel is not so easy, at least for the time being. I think things will change dramatically in the next 5-10 years. The little one is always saying that by the time she gets to drive fuel will be like $1000 per/gal! I always tell her she will not be driving traditional fuel vehicles; by God they may not even have wheels! After the 70’s energy crisis, shouldn’t we be driving cars with perfected alternative fuel technology by now?

Finding alternative energy sources is not just about rising fuel prices and not wanting to support the greedy oil companies, it’s about making this planet a better place to live and keeping it around for our grandchildren to enjoy.

Driving alternative fuel cars is one step, perhaps the first major one for you and me. We can also recycle, change our light bulbs, build more efficient homes, stop the use of harmful chemicals, and find alternative energy to fuel our homes!

I have been concerned with this topic since the early 80’s when it was not a fad. While I am glad that it is popular no matter the reason, people are changing their habits, which is what counts, I do not like that it is a trend. I am scared that oil prices will go down and then what? We all go back to consuming excessive amounts of energy, forget about our carbon footprint? I sure hope not.

Happy Trails Everyone!
